Matcha, a powdered green tea typically used in Japanese tea ceremonies, has become quite popular in recent years. Not only can you find Matcha in many coffee shops and tea rooms, as well as purchase it for home use; many professional cooks and home bakers are incorporating it into Matcha tea recipes.

Traditionally, Matcha is prepared by mixing the powdered green tea with warm water and whisking in a quick “M” and “W” motion until the tea is fully dissolved and frothy on top. Because you are actually drinking the powdered tea leaves, not steeping them, Matcha is richer in flavor, has higher levels of caffeine, as well as more health benefits than other teas.

Not only is Matcha great for a boost of energy and known for reducing stress, matcha is packed with antioxidants, called polyphenols, which have been shown to have anti-aging benefits, as well as help protect against heart disease and cancer.
